No need to be happy for me, I'll still like you
"So, how is this girl of yours?"
Her back was turned on me, so I couldn't see her face and she couldn't see mine - how strategic doing the dishes can be when one does not like direct eye contact.
"She's great, mom, thank you for asking."
"Hm. So, is this relationship going to last or is it just temporary?"
"We've been living together for almost three years, mother, I wouldn't call this temporary, no."
"Yes. Well, you and your women, we never know how it's going to work out, do we?"
"We don't need to discuss this if you're not comfortable with it, you know that.", I said.
Her back was still turned on me.
"I am not happy with this, I want to be crystal clear about it. I will never be happy with this."
"It's ok, mother. I'm not asking you to. I just want you to know I am happy this way".
"That's good."
And then we made the grocery list, together.
